22567VIC Certificate I in Transition Education

22567VIC Certificate I in Transition Education is an entry-level course for people facing barriers learning due to living with a permanent intellectual disability/cognitive impairment.

The program provides a step-by-step pathway to either further education, employment or greater involvement with your community by providing you the opportunity to:

  • Improve your self-confidence
  • Improve your reading and writing
  • Get ready for work or identify your options for job training
  • Explore further education or learning opportunities
  • Build stronger connections with your community

This is a Victorian Skills First Government Funded Course which is independent of NDIS funding.

What you will learn

This is a foundation course with a focus on literacy and numeracy while incorporating opportunities to develop real-life skills including:

  • Goal setting
  • Budgeting
  • Health and wellbeing
  • Community connections
  • Personal safety
  • Education and training
  • Volunteering
  • Travelling independently
  • Information technology
  • Social media

Delivery method

The course is delivered in the classroom two days a week 9.30 am to 3.30 pm over 47 study weeks. The course continues over school holiday periods; however, a three-week break is timetabled over the Christmas and New Year period.

Classes are trainer-led and provide the opportunity for small and large group activities and timetabled excursions.

Locations

This course runs in multiple locations throughout Melbourne.

Pre-Training Review

The purpose of the review is to help us to understand your interests, background, your existing knowledge, skills and goals, so we can make sure the program is right for you, before you enroll.

The Pre-training review involves an informal interview and a language literacy and numeracy assessment.  To successfully complete this program, you need to have language literacy and numeracy skills at Level 1 ACSF.

Evidence of Eligibility

22567VIC Certificate I in Transition Education is for post compulsory school aged learners with evidence of a permanent cognitive impairment/intellectual disability. Prior to enrolling into this course, evidence of a permanent cognitive impairment/intellectual disability must be presented. Evidence may include a doctor/specialist report, proof of attendance at Specialist School or EmployEase medical declaration.
