How is the course delivered?

The CHC43115 Certificate IV in Disability is delivered using a blended delivery model. Some units are delivered face-to-face in the classroom, while others are delivered online via Zoom.

The qualification has two (2) timetable options so you can choose a delivery method that suits your lifestyle:

1. Weekday: delivered over a period of approximately 5 months for 2 days per week from 9.30am – 3.30pm. This option includes120 hours of placement.
2. Evening / weekend: Two evenings a week online via Zoom and one Saturday a month at the Box Hill campus. This option includes 120 hours of placement.

We specialise in training people who have been out of the workforce or education for a period of time. Our goal is to make your training relevant, inclusive and most importantly, enjoyable and fun.

Who is the course for?

This course is designed for people who have no prior experience in disability support and would like to gain a qualification to start their career. Our goal is to make your training relevant, inclusive and most importantly, enjoyable and fun.

We specialise in training a wide range of people with different backgrounds and experience:

1. People who have been out of the workforce or education for a period of time
2. People looking to change careers
3. Parents looking to get back into the workforce with a family-friendly course timetable
4. People who are experienced / currently working in disability support who do not hold a formal nationally accredited qualification

Pre-training review

The purpose of the review is to help us to understand your interests, background, your existing knowledge and skills and your career goals, and is designed to make sure the program is right for you, before you enroll. The PTR involves an informal interview and language literacy and numeracy and information technology assessment. To successfully complete this program a student must be able to demonstrate language, literacy and numeracy skills at Level 3 and Level 4 ACSF. Mobile Phones or any translation devices are not permitted to be used when completing a pre-training review.

Attendance

Students are required to attend all training sessions. In some circumstances a student may be prevented from undertaking assessment should their attendance not meet minimum attendance requirements. Please refer to our Student Handbook for more information.

What are the entry requirements?

An entry requirement of this course is that you must apply for clearance to be able to work in the Disability industry by applying for an NDIS Screening Check, at your expense, once you have completed the first month of your training. EmployEase provides an information sheet to you with instructions on how to apply for clearance an NDIS Screening Check as part of your enrolment. The NDIS Screening Check is compulsory for all students who need to complete placement at a registered NDIS facility, and for employment in the sector.

You must also be able to provide a Police Check with no disclosures and a Working with Children Check linked to EmployEase (this can be applied for with the NDIS Screening Check). These checks are required to meet industry standards and are a pre-requisite to being eligible to undertake placement. You cannot successfully complete this course without a clear police check or working with children check. Should there be any doubt about your ability to meet these two criteria, please raise your concerns with a Course
Advisor prior to enrolment.
EmployEase is unable to take responsibility for training undertaken, inability to complete placement or for any loss of monies due to a student being unable to achieve an NDIS Clearance check, and Working with Children Check, or a clear Police Check.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is conducted using a range of methods including written online tasks using our online learning system, Canvas; in-class demonstrations and role plays, practical demonstration in the workplace and workplace tasks.

What is work placement?

Work placement takes 120 hours to complete and is a component of this course. A partnership approach is used for securing a placement.

Students are strongly encouraged to source their own placement which provides an opportunity to show employability skills. In home support services MAY be used for placement in this qualification, subject to discussion with the Placement Coordinator.

EmployEase will also provide support with sourcing placements and will allocate placements directly to students where and when available. Placement must be undertaken over a minimum of 12 hours per week/10 consecutive weeks. Where placement is allocated by EmployEase we aim to secure a service within 30 minutes of your home or study location, however this may not always be possible. Students must be prepared to undertake some reasonable travel for placement.

Placement must be within a residential unit, day centre or special development school. In home support services MAY be used for placement in this qualification, subject to discussion with the Placement Coordinator. Placement is completed according to day shift rosters. Weekend arrangements or night shifts may be available; however, this cannot be guaranteed and must be arranged with prior consultation with the Placement Coordinator.

Please note that placement cannot be undertaken in locations that fall outside of our standard delivery areas.

Materials and equipment

Students undertaking this course are required to submit assignments electronically, therefore applicants must have:

• Access to a computer with internet access and MS Word
• Access to a document scanner or digital uploading resource
• Basic computer and MS Word skills

This training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government Funding. Subject to Eligibility.

People with disabilities are encouraged to access training subsidised through the Skills First Program.

Additional Learning and Support Services

All students undertaking training with EmployEase have access to our two (2) part Return to Study program and our timetabled Study Support Sessions. Some additional support is available after training by meeting with one of our qualified trainers. Student Liaison is available to provide support in relation to goal setting, time management, study skills and welfare issues by contacting EmployEase reception on 1300 86 81 81.
