This program gives newly graduated ENs and ENs working in other sectors an insight into the specific requirements of aged care nursing. The four day program covers topics such as:

  • The EN role and aged care scope of practice
  • Communication within a holistic care team
  • Funding and regulation of the sector
  • Resident’s rights and responsibilities
  • Providing person centred care
  • Team leadership
  • Documentation
  • Technical competencies
  • Pain management
  • Would prevention and management
  • Infection control
  • Continence management and bowel care
  • Medication management
  • Supporting residents with dementia
  • The palliative approach
  • Elder abuse and compulsory reporting
  • Nutrition and hydration
  • Recognising and managing clinical deterioration

Delivery method

Two days of classes followed by two buddy shifts in a local aged care facility where you’ll shadow an EN team leader to practice your skills in a safe and supportive environment.

Completion of this program will enable you to apply for shifts in residential aged care as a HCA Enrolled Nurse!
