7 Steps to a Successful Career Change

Changing careers from doing something that pays the bills, to doing something that you love (and still pays the bills), can be daunting but is the ultimate way to make a living so how do you go about making a career change?

There are multiple factors you need to consider:

• Where will I study?
• Can I afford it?
• Can I work and study at the same time?
• How long will it take to become qualified?
• Am I too old?
• Are there plenty of jobs in my newly chosen career path?

These are common questions people ask themselves so don’t feel like you’re the only one thinking about them! We have over 25 years’ experience helping people like yourself make a move to a career in Aged Care, Home & Community Care, and Disability.

Will I have time to study while I do my day job?
We understand that students need to balance work and study. Therefore, we offer evening and day courses that run for two days per week. Need to pop out and pick up the kids? Not a problem, our experienced trainers understand that family comes first and offer flexible hours.

How long until I’m qualified?
Students usually complete a course in 6-8 months. During that time, we arrange 120 hours or work placement which is assisted by a qualified Nurse. This provides you with the qualifications and experience needed to hit the ground running and gain employment.
Top tip: treat the work placement like an interview. If you put in hard work and prove that you are fit for the job, many students are offered full-time contracts as a result!

Can I afford it?
We provide Government funding for eligible students*. This makes the course affordable for everyone. Click here to speak to a course advisor and find out if you qualify. Don’t worry, even if you are not eligible, we offer payment plans tailored to your needs.

Changing careers at 30, 40, 50+
An advantage of candidates changing jobs in their 30’s, 40’s, 50’s and even older, is having real-life experience. Many of our top performing students are in their 60’s and 70’s! They have the lifelong expertise and make the best carers. You’re never too old to start a new career in Aged Care of Disability.

Do I have the skills and qualifications to study with Employees?
There are no set skills needed to start studying with us. Luckily, the course has been designed so that you come out at the other end fully equipped and confident to start making a real difference in people’s lives.

Can I study close to home?
We have over 12 locations throughout Melbourne so you can study close to home. This makes life more comfortable, especially when it comes to picking the kids up from school, studying after work or using public transport. Click here to find your closest location.
If you’re thinking about making a move, we have over 25+ years’ experience helping people like yourself move to a career in Aged Care, Home & Community, and disability.

Are there plenty of jobs?
The Healthcare and social assistance industry is Australia’s biggest employer and with an abundance of jobs and seems like the perfect career path. Over the next 35 years, the aged care industry alone will need to triple in size to be able to continue to provide support for the aging population.
