How is the course delivered?

• Delivered via online (supported). This includes some scheduled and drop in online sessions with trainers and may include some face to face sessions for skills assessment.
• 120-hour work placement which is organised by EmployEase.
• 12 months duration
• Course commencement dates will vary depending on a student’s enrolment date through a rolling intake. A detailed Training Plan will be provided upon enrolment showing individual commencement dates and unit timeframes based on the date of enrolment.

Who Is the course for?

This course is designed for people who have no prior experience in aged care or disability support and would like to gain a qualification to start their career. Our goal is to make your training relevant, inclusive and most importantly, enjoyable and fun.

We specialise in training a wide range of people with different backgrounds and experience, including:

1. People who have been out of the workforce or education for a period of time
2. People looking to change careers
3. Parents looking to get back into the workforce with a family-friendly course timetable
4. People who are experienced / currently working in aged care who do not hold a formal nationally accredited qualification

Pre-Training review

The purpose of the review is to help us to understand your interests, background, your existing knowledge and skills and your career goals, and is designed to make sure the program is right for you, before you enroll.

The PTR (Pre-Training Review) involves a language, literacy, numeracy and a digital literacy assessment.

Attendance

• Mandatory first class for commencement of each unit, PLUS a mandatory role play for each unit
• Weekly online study support sessions are also offered. While these classes are not mandatory, it is highly recommended that students attend, especially in the early days of the course. 
• On campus face to face classes – students will be required to attend on campus for specific days of delivery. These classes allow the trainer to observe and assess students undertake tasks related to manual handling, infection control and personal care.
• In some circumstances a student may be prevented from undertaking work placement should their attendance not meet minimum requirements. Please refer to our Student Handbook for more information (see Further Information below)

Assessments

Assessment is conducted using a range of methods including written questioning, multiple choice, case studies, scenarios, research tasks and practical demonstrations within the classroom setting or online with a trainer or in the workplace.

Written assessments are completed online via our LMS (online campus).

Trainer-led assessments include various demonstrations and role plays delivered online or in the classroom.

There is a 120-hour compulsory work placement component to this course, which is arranged for you by EmployEase and supported by a Mentor. Work Placement will be arranged in an aged care facility only when you have completed your supported learning. We aim to arrange placement within 30 minutes of your home however this may not always be possible. Students must be prepared to undertake some reasonable travel for placement. Unfortunately, placement cannot be undertaken in locations that fall outside of our standard delivery areas.

Finally, students will complete a range of workplace tasks during their work placement period, these are an additional and separate method of assessment.

Materials and equipment

As a portion of this course is delivered via Zoom and students are required to complete assessments using our online learning system, applicants must have:

• Easy access to a computer with internet and MS word
• Easy access to a document scanner or digital uploading resource
• Basic computer skills (able to create and upload a file; attach a file to email)
• Basic MS Word skills (able to create a word document)

Additional training opportunity

Unit CHCPAL001 Deliver care services using a palliative approach.

This training program is optional. Please let your Course Advisor know prior to enrolment if you wish to undertake this additional training opportunity.

Additional learning and support services

All students undertaking training with EmployEase have access to a two-part Return to Study program and our timetabled Study Support sessions. Some additional support is also available after class by meeting with one of our qualified trainers.
