Introduction to the AN-ACC Funding Model

From 1st October 2022, the Australian National Aged Care Classification (AN-ACC) funding model will be replacing the existing Aged Care Funding Instrument (ACFI) model, and it is important that providers and carers understand the differences between these two models.

AN-ACC legislation is still in its early stages of rollout and might be affected by factors such as the final report from the Aged Care Royal Commission.

Why Switch to AN-ACC?

The previous funding model (ACFI) measures the need for care and not the amount of care actually provided to the resident. AN-ACC will be the tool used to calculate funding for all permanent aged care residents within government funded residential aged care facilities. It will increase the efficiency of the funding process and maximise the care provided to residents.

What is the AN-ACC Funding Process?

The Australian Government sets the starting price for the average cost of providing one day of care to one resident. External AN-ACC assessors will assess each resident according to their need for care and the department then uses the results to classify each resident. Funding is then paid according to these assessments. Reassessment is available if residents’ need for care increases.

Why Use Independent Assessors?

Independent assessors will take the workload of assessing residents’ funding needs away from facility staff, enabling them to focus on providing care for residents.
